South Carolina Wrap; Tennessee Preview

Full crew tonight for a discussion of the South Carolina win.  Good victory for the Hogs, and we look forward to next week's final game of the season in RRS.  Picks contest tightens up considerably, and once again P Williams has a doubleup to catch up opportunity.

Ole Miss Wrap; Vanderbilt Preview

On tonight's Very Special episode of Razorpod, guest host Tracy from Tulsa joins the crew to discuss the HDN Special that went down in Oxford on Saturday.  The Hogs pulled out the 29-24 win over the Rebels, thanks to a late game interception and a tremendous second half.  After being down 17-0, Willy Robinson made halftime adjustments and the offense came alive.  The crew discusses why the Hogs start so slowly, whether the staff can start making better adjustments in the first half, and what needs to happen down the stretch to make sure we don't have a loss to an inferior team.  Picks contest remains static, and Johnny and Jimmy G rant about TV's influence on the average fan's college football enjoyment.

Ole Miss Preview

The crew is rested and healthy after the bye week.  Its HDN mania on the podcast, as JimmyG relates his  hatred of the Razorbacks' former coach.  Our thoughts are tinged with a bit of sadness, however, as this may be the last year we see Houston and his crew in the SEC.  Ole Miss has now lost 9 straight SEC games after their trouncing at the hands of Alabama.  We preview the game, and then speculate about Missouri's addition to the SEC and what that might mean for divisional realignment.  As usual, our mailbag runneth over this week.

Missouri State Wrap; New Mexico Preview

Season 8, Episode 4 brings you a shortened wrap up of the Razorbacks' 51-7 domination of the Missouri State Bears in Fayetteville.  Joe Adams wins SEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his 2 punt return touchdowns, the defense looked great, and Tyler Wilson and the receivers also looked strong.  The crew spends some time discussing the running game, and whether Ronnie Wingo will be able to be stronger from this game to the next and the rest of the season.  The national picks are tremendous, and there is a veritable cornucopia of sleeper games from which to pick.

We also spend some time discussing the conference realignment issues, and the breaking news that Texas A&M has been invited and has accepted an invitation to the SEC.  Much Texas-bashing ensues (YAY!) and we pose some of the various alternatives which might result from this round of realignment.  Johnny Fayetteville waxes nostalgic about the "regional texture" of college football which may be lost; then gives Boise State the back of his hand.

Season 8 Is Underway

Despite the 100 degree temperatures, fall is just around the corner. With it comes Season 8 of Razorpod. Yes, the crew is back for one last shot at glory (or competency, anyway). We get into midseason form right away with a long discussion of the Knile Davis injury and how it changes the prospects for this season. The crew remains bullish on the Hogs, and shows some remarkable unanimity on the projected record: 9-3's all around, with Patrick lodging an 8-4 record because of the Houston Dale special we all know is coming. We run down the rest of the SEC West, and delve into Texas A&M's flirtation with the SEC. We never lost the opportunity for some good old Texas-bashing as well. Johnny has a rant, even though the season hasn't kicked off yet.

Hogs Beat The Dogs in Double OT; The Mad Hatter Rolls into Historic War Memorial Stadium

Turkey for You, Turkey For Me
The final week of the regular season is already upon us; hard to believe football season is nearly over.  As Johnny Fayetteville says, the best week of the year is here, lots of food, family, and football.  In this week's show, we analyze the Mississippi State victory (38-31) and try to figure out what is going to happen this Saturday in War Memorial Stadium.  Bottom line is no one really knows....

Johnny has a nigh-insurmountable lead in the picks with 2 weeks to go-up 3 games.  P Williams doubles up to catch up if he can; Logan and G debate the wisdom of taking the ball to start the game.

Ole Miss Victory Despite the Lightning; Vandy's Turkey Baster is Coming to the Land of Chickens

The Razorbacks won last week despite the HDN mojo and the multiple weather delays.  While a good win, the crew is not ecstatic about the Hogs on this week's show.  Johnny states the case for the team's inconsistency; and the crew debates if the delays helped or hurt the Hogs.  This week, Vandy's up, and the crew is pretty even-keeled about the Hogs' chances.  Separation in the picks contest based on PW's 1-5 implosion from last week.  A recap of the National Sleeper Picks comes through as well as the crew's mid-season bowl projections.

Cam Newton Bulldozes Jericho Nelson and the Hogs; Up Next is Our Old Friend HDN

Wow-what an insane game last week, but the Hogs come out on the short end of the highest-scoring regulation game in SEC history, a 65-43 defeat to the Auburn Tigers.  In this week's show, the crew tries to put it behind them, but several things get in the way, namely Rogers Redding and the SEC refs.  Rants abound this week-and they are spectacular.  The picks contest is nearly a dead heat with three tied for first place and PW only 1 game back.  By the way, don't look now, but guess who's coming to brunch in Reynolds Razorback Stadium this Saturday morning?

This man is responsible for Rebel Black Bear. Did you ever doubt this?

Tenn. Tech stops the second-teamers; ULM Comes to Historic War Memorial

Tennessee Tech collected its paycheck last Saturday in Reynolds Razorback Stadium, serving its purpose as a punching bag in the Razorbacks' 44-3 win.  In this week's show, Johnny Fayetteville gets off to a fast start in the picks contest, Jimmy G rants against the NFL, and Houston Nutt is thrown under the bus by the crew.  Also, Johnny hates Boise State.

Razorpod 11-17-09: Unhorsing Troy; Mississippi State Comes to Historic War Memorial

Despite Johnny Fayetteville's worst fears, the Troy game turned out to be nothing to worry about. Mallett had another big day, spreading the ball around so that 8 different players scored. Big day for the offense all around. Defense is who we though they were. Porous between the 20's, but stout in the red zone. Next up is Miss. State, coming off a brutal loss to Bama. We'll see whether they decide to let go of the rope at War Memorial Stadium this Saturday. Early kick has been kind to the Hogs this season, so let's keep it going. In the mailbag, we discuss a possible early entrance to the NFL draft for Mallett, and a listener fills us in on the military flyovers before games.

Know your SEC Trophy Games. Say wha????
Ok, last night on Razorpod we were clowning about having a trophy for the Miss. State-Arkansas game. Johnny Fayetteville suggested the "Hefty Sack of Claw Hammers." Good start, but we want some listener input as well. Send your thoughts to razorpod@sbcglobal.net.

Hot on the heels of last night's show, we ran across this interesting tidbit
on the internets. Seems like the student governments at Ole Miss and LSU have decided to call their matchup "The Magnolia Bowl" this year and into the future.

As we all know, you can't have a trophy game without the trophy. Behold the Magnolia Blossom:

This trophy was actually approved by Ole Miss and LSU administrations

Here's the question that should be on everyone's mind. This game is ALREADY A HUGE RIVALRY. Why do you need a trophy??? One that started in 2008? At least The Golden Boot was started because Arkansas was new to the SEC and wanted to create a rivalry.

Who DID Invent the Wildcat/Wild Rebel/Wild Dolphin? Col Mustard in the Pantry...

Hopefully, most of you football fans saw the highlights of the Dolphins' win against New England over the weekend, in which Miami RB Ronnie Brown ran the "Wild Dolphin" formation for 3 TDs. There's been a series of articles in the Orlando paper this week about the origins of the formation, and since former Arkansas OC David Lee is now on the Miami coaching staff, an article was published Monday crediting Lee with coming up with the formation.

The paper has now published a followup article (after apparently being on the receiving end of an email blitz by Arkansas fans) in which Gus Mal-a-zahn is credited with it (and interviewed about his role in using it at Arkansas). Makes for a good read, regardless of your feelings about the Malzahn/Mustain/Nutt love triangle.

Tracking the origins of something like this is a bit like trying to figure out who first came up with the idea for beer in a can...its impossible to nail down one "creator." I just think its cool that something that really took off on the college level at Arkansas is now in the NFL. I also like the fact that its pretty much connected with Arkansas and McFadden every time its run on the college or pro level now.
