The Razorbacks are bound for New Orleans and the Sugar Bowl vs Ohio State.   In this week's show, the crew talks about the Sugar Bowl, the matchup with Ohio State, and Petrino's contract extension.  JimmyG takes us rapid-fire through all the bowls, and Johnny has some choice words for the national media.  See ya in the Big Easy!

Razorpod Picks - Week 14

Sadly, this is the final week of the college football regular season and Razorpod pick contest. Happily, it is Championship Week in college football as conference champions are determined in the ACC, Big East, Big XII, SEC, MAC, WAC, and Conference USA. A hearty congratulations to Johnny Fayetteville for capturing his first pick's title. All four crew members now have a banner hanging from the rafters and some hardware in their trophy case.

The SEC Championship Game could only be more interesting to Hogs' fans if the UofA was playing in the game. A victory by Auburn will almost certainly send Arkansas to its first ever BCS bowl. A date with Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl looms if Auburn can defeat South Carolina Saturday afternoon in Atlanta. The picks (with a special bonus pick of the Army-Navy game on December 11):

PW (42-36): Washington State, Oregon, Virginia Tech, Nebraska, Auburn, Navy, Arizona State (Patrick Williams submitted his sleeper pick of Arizona State before last night's game, so he already has a win this week)

JF (48-30): Washington, Oregon, Florida State, Oklahoma, Auburn, Army, UCLA

TL (43-35): Washington State, Oregon, Florida State, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Army, Connecticut

JG (40-38): Washington State, Oregon, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Army, Pittsburgh

Razorbacks Beat the Tigers in WMS; Sugar Bowl Next???

The Razorbacks beat the LSU Tigers in a great game Saturday in Historic War Memorial Stadium.  In this week's show, the crew discusses the LSU game and the Hogs bowl prospects.  Also up for discussion is the Cam Newton situation and other issues.  Johnny Fayetteville has pretty much put the picks contest away; and Tom Logan needs another drink.  Razorbacks are likely in the Sugar or Capital One Bowls!

Razorpod Picks - Week 13

The Iron Bowl has major implications for the Hogs this year, and you can guess who has the Razorpodders' rooting interest. The picks are a different story, however. Also, tune into what could be the craziest day of this college football season...Friday. Three of the top four teams in the BCS standings play against ranked opponents - No. 1 Oregon is at home against 20th ranked Arizona, No. 2 Auburn is obviously playing No. 11 Alabama in Tuscaloosa, and No. 4 Boise State (and most assuredly No. 3 with a win) faces its only tough test since Labor Day on the road at No. 18 Nevada. The games are spread out with the Iron Bowl at 1:30 p.m., Arizona-Oregon at 6:00 p.m., and BSU-Nevada at 9:15 p.m. (all times CST). So, load up on booze and leftover Thanksgiving food and enjoy the football. On with the picks:

PW (40-32): Ole Miss, Michigan, Oklahoma, Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado

JF (43-29): Mississippi State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida

TL (39-33): Ole Miss, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Auburn, Arkansas, West Virginia

JG (37-35): Mississippi State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Alabama, LSU, Penn State

Happy Thanksgiving to all the Razorpod Fans!

Hogs Beat The Dogs in Double OT; The Mad Hatter Rolls into Historic War Memorial Stadium

Turkey for You, Turkey For Me
The final week of the regular season is already upon us; hard to believe football season is nearly over.  As Johnny Fayetteville says, the best week of the year is here, lots of food, family, and football.  In this week's show, we analyze the Mississippi State victory (38-31) and try to figure out what is going to happen this Saturday in War Memorial Stadium.  Bottom line is no one really knows....

Johnny has a nigh-insurmountable lead in the picks with 2 weeks to go-up 3 games.  P Williams doubles up to catch up if he can; Logan and G debate the wisdom of taking the ball to start the game.

UTEP Gets Buried; Hawgs vs. Dogs Next

After a lively 1st Quarter, the Razorbacks took care of Mike Price's UTEP Miners on Senior Day in Fayetteville.  Unfortunately, the Razorpod crew was not so smooth in the show this week, and Skype really let us down.  Much like Houston Nutt, we're throwing everyone under the bus this week-Skype, Comcast, the Internet and its tubes in general just didn't execute very well.  So we have a short show this week-you get the UTEP wrap and the Miss. State discussion, but no picks or rants.  The picks are up on the blog, and we will have supersized rants saved up for LSU week.

Razorpod Picks - Week 12

As another college football season begins to wind down, the intensity of the picks contest explodes. Patrick Williams' perfect 6-0 week vaulted him into second place just a single game behind Johnny Fayetteville. Tom Logan is only two games back, while yours truly languishes at .500. Thank you, Miss Felicity Jones, for being a friendly face to even those who are in last place. Picks:

PW (37-29): Wisconsin, Texas A&M, Iowa, Miami, Arkansas, Duke
JF (38-28): Wisconsin, Nebraska, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Arkansas, North Carolina State
TL (36-30): Wisconsin, Texas A&M, Iowa, Miami, Arkansas, California
JG (33-33): Wisconsin, Nebraska, Ohio State, Miami, Arkansas, Oregon State

Razorpod Picks - Week 11

The crews says hello to our friends (hack, wheeze, hack) in the Northeast corner of Arkansas this week. Welcome to the show Arkansas State. Yes, we know you're the Red Wolves now, but tradition dies hard here on Razorpod. On with this week's picks:
PW (31-29): WKU, Alabama, South Carolina, Auburn, Arkansas, Northwestern
JF (34-26): Arkansas State, Alabama, Florida, Auburn, Arkansas, Tennessee
TL (32-28): Arkansas State, Alabama, Florida, Auburn, Arkansas, Notre Dame
JG (31-29): Arkansas State, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, Duke

Hogs Beat The Cocks'; Mike Price's Florabama Express is Next

The Razorbacks come off a convincing 41-20 victory over South Carolina in Columbia last week, in a game in which they finally put together the mythical "all three phases of the game" that Johnny Fayetteville has been asking them to do all year.  In this week's show, we discuss the win; talk about the key plays, and finally scratch our heads at a Razorback actually making a field goal over 50 yards.  Patrick Williams is officially insane in the picks; everyone else is holding serve.

The crew hopes to make a November to remember as the picks contest comes down to the final few weeks.

Arkansas Commandeers the Commodores; Steve Superior and the Gamecocks are Next

This week's show brings some A+ rants against ESPN, Boise, and Wally Hall.  Arkansas comes off a resounding 49-14 win over Vanderbilt in Fayetteville, but loses WR Greg Childs to a knee injury.  Next up is South Carolina, with freshman sensation Marcus Lattimore and Senior Stephen Garcia at QB, and the ever quotable Steve Spurrier on the sidelines.  The picks contest tightens up with everyone back within 2 games after PW's 5-1 week.

Thursday, October 28, 2010

Razorpod Picks - Week 9

PW (23-25): Iowa, Georgia, Nebraska, Oregon, Arkansas, Baylor
JF (27-21): Michigan State, Georgia, Nebraska, Oregon, Arkansas, Louisville
TL (26-22): Iowa, Georgia, Missouri, Oregon, Arkansas, Kentucky
JG (25-23): Michigan State, Florida, Nebraska, Oregon, Arkansas, Air Force

Ole Miss Victory Despite the Lightning; Vandy's Turkey Baster is Coming to the Land of Chickens

The Razorbacks won last week despite the HDN mojo and the multiple weather delays.  While a good win, the crew is not ecstatic about the Hogs on this week's show.  Johnny states the case for the team's inconsistency; and the crew debates if the delays helped or hurt the Hogs.  This week, Vandy's up, and the crew is pretty even-keeled about the Hogs' chances.  Separation in the picks contest based on PW's 1-5 implosion from last week.  A recap of the National Sleeper Picks comes through as well as the crew's mid-season bowl projections.

Friday, October 22, 2010

Razorpod Picks - Week 8

The crew managed a 3-1 record in sleeper game's last week, and it would've been 4-0 had Johnny Fayetteville's original sleeper pick not been a national game. There is also a three way tie for first place in the standings, and Patrick Williams is only one game back. It should be a wild finish for the Razorpod Picks Championship.

PW (22-20): Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma, LSU, Ole Miss, Northwestern
JF (23-19): Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Auburn, Arkansas, Kansas State
TL (23-19): Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma, Auburn, Arkansas, North Carolina
JG (23-19): Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma, LSU, Arkansas, Bowling Green

Cam Newton Bulldozes Jericho Nelson and the Hogs; Up Next is Our Old Friend HDN

Wow-what an insane game last week, but the Hogs come out on the short end of the highest-scoring regulation game in SEC history, a 65-43 defeat to the Auburn Tigers.  In this week's show, the crew tries to put it behind them, but several things get in the way, namely Rogers Redding and the SEC refs.  Rants abound this week-and they are spectacular.  The picks contest is nearly a dead heat with three tied for first place and PW only 1 game back.  By the way, don't look now, but guess who's coming to brunch in Reynolds Razorback Stadium this Saturday morning?

This man is responsible for Rebel Black Bear. Did you ever doubt this?

Razorpod Picks - Week 7

Amazingly, it is already week seven of the college football season. As we hit the halfway point, the crew is just 1-23 on sleeper game picks and just treading water on the overall picks. It's time to get serious and show that we really do know what we are talking about on the podcast...maybe.

PW (19-17): S. Carolina, Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Mississippi State
JF (21-15): Kentucky, Iowa, Nebraska, Ohio State, Arkansas, Illinois
TL (18-18): Kentucky, Iowa, Texas, Ohio State, Auburn, Missouri
JG (21-15): S. Carolina, Iowa, Nebraska, Ohio State, Arkansas, Hawaii

Southwest Classic Wrap; Auburn Preview

The Razorbacks prevail against Texas A&M in the Southwest Classic 24-17.  In this week's show, the Razorpod crew is unsettled by the poor offensive performance in the second half, and by the horrendous sunspot in Cowboys Stadium.  This week's opponent is the undefeated Auburn Tigers in a crucial SEC matchup.  Johnny likes the matchup.  Tom Logan doubles up to catch up in the Picks contest, and Patrick unveils the "Patrick Williams Gambit."  Enjoy the show.

Razorpod Picks - Week 6

The crew finally won a sleeper game last week. That brought the season total to a whopping 1-19. Patrick Williams even berated the crew for such an inept sleeper pick record, and he immediately went out and was crushed in his sleeper game pick this week. Mr. Williams predicted a Kansas State win over Nebraska in last night's ESPN game. The final score - Nebraska 48 Kansas State 13. A sarcastic "good work" goes out to our intrepid host. The sleeper pick record is now 1-20. The rest of this week's picks:

PW (16-14): Michigan State, Florida, Miami, South Carolina, Arkansas
JF (19-11): Michigan, Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky
TL (16-14): Michigan State, Florida, Miami, Alabama, Arkansas, Clemson
JG (18-12): Michigan, LSU, Miami, South Carolina, Arkansas, Iowa State

The Southwest Classic at Cowboys Stadium-Texas A&M

In this week's show, the crew discusses the upcoming Southwest Classic game against Texas A&M.  Will the Razorbacks suffer any hangovers from the Alabama loss?  More to the point, has A&M recovered from their gut-punch game against Oklahoma State?

Thursday, September 30, 2010

Razorpod Picks - Week 5

JF (16-8): Wisconsin, NC State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Alabama, Duke
PW (13-11): Mich. St., NC State, Texas, Oregon, Alabama, Indiana
TL (13-11): Mich. St., NC State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Florida, Navy
JG (13-11): Wisconsin, Va. Tech, Oklahoma, Oregon, Alabama, Miami (OH)

Alabama Heartbreak

A tough loss is dissected by the crew in this week's show.  Is the loss on Mallett or should it be a team loss?  The crew discusses and looks ahead to the rest of the season.  Does this loss put the Hogs out of the running for their goals this season, or can they still have a great season even losing to Alabama?  The answer may lie in what Alabama does the rest of the way.  Great national games to pick this week, but the crew is now 0-16 on sleeper picks.

Razorpod Picks - Week 4

Just in time for tonight's Thursday night game on ESPN. The crew's picks for Week 4:

PW (11-7): Pitt, Stanford, S. Carolina, West Virginia, Alabama, Wake Forest
JF (14-4): Pitt, Stanford, S. Carolina, LSU, Arkansas, Temple
TL (10-8): Pitt, Stanford, Auburn, LSU, Arkansas, Fresno State
JG (10-8): Miami, Notre Dame, S. Carolina, LSU, Alabama, UAB

Enjoy this week's games. Go Hogs!

A YUUUGE Georgia Win; Alabama's Comin' to Town and the Intangibles May Just be Leaning Our Way

Greg Childs' 40 yard touchdown leads the Hogs past Georgia last week in a stirring win for the Razorbacks on the road.  In this week's show, Johnny Fayetteville's audio is finally fixed; Tom Logan is back in studio, and Jimmy G is solid as usual.  Patrick Williams threatens to "go nil" on sleeper picks, which may actually happen this year.  The rants section is alive and well if you can make it all the way to the end of the podcast.  Oh, and by the way, #1 Alabama comes to town on Saturday for a YUUUUGE matchup.  The crew channels Bob Davie all week on Razorpod.

Patrick Williams: Florida, Nebraska, Iowa, Clemson, Arkansas, Hawaii
Johnny Fayetteville: Florida, Nebraska, Iowa, Auburn, Arkansas, Texas Tech

In other words, LSU Vet School's Workers' Comp Premiums Skyrocket.

This story is about LSU working with Mike the Tiger on loading into his enclosure for games this season. Apparently, Mike is not as cooperative these days as he was in 2009.

ULM Wrap; Georgia Preview. Will we come through in a big game?

And now the fun starts.  UL-Monroe game at Historic War Memorial was too close for comfort for 3 quarters, so what does that mean for the next two crucial games?  In this week's show, JimmyG, Johnny, and Patrick Williams discuss who needs this win more, Georgia or Arkansas.  What are the implications for each team, and who can most afford to lose.   The crew is 0-8 through three weeks on sleeper games, which should surprise nobody.  Overall, though, the picks contest is looking good.  JF's audio is horrible...again.  We have it figured out now, so next week's show will really boost our average.  We are still Logan-less, but hope to have him back next week too.

Tenn. Tech stops the second-teamers; ULM Comes to Historic War Memorial

Tennessee Tech collected its paycheck last Saturday in Reynolds Razorback Stadium, serving its purpose as a punching bag in the Razorbacks' 44-3 win.  In this week's show, Johnny Fayetteville gets off to a fast start in the picks contest, Jimmy G rants against the NFL, and Houston Nutt is thrown under the bus by the crew.  Also, Johnny hates Boise State.

Tennessee Tech Preview; Say No To Cell Phone Interference

Short crew on this week's show with Tom Logan absent.  The Razorpod crew has its first Skype experience with JimmyG corresponding remotely from scenic Northwest Arkansas.  Practice notes, national notes including the Ingram injury and the Masoli/Nutt meltdown at Ole Miss.  The first national picks of the year are up, and the first week's sleeper teams are actually not that awful.  Boise State bashing all around, we'll see how that turns out.  The JimmyG rant this week=Thom Brennaman, come on down!

Historic War Memorial Stadium Renovations Finished

SLIDESHOW: Fans Admire Changes as Ribbon Sliced on Stadium's New $7.3 Million Press Box - ArkansasSports360.com

The closing of Studio JimmyG apparently hasn't hurt the cash flow of Historic War Memorial Stadium. ArkansasBusiness.com has a story and photo blog about the new renovations.

Patrick Williams had a chance to see the renovations in process on July 5, and thinks it will be a huge improvement.

Sayonara Studio Jimmy G: Liberty Bowl Wrap

The last show originating from Studio Jimmy G is a tearjerker. The crew says goodbye to The Studio, home of Razorpod for the last 5 years; but looks forward to the future. Especially with Mallett, DJ Williams, and the rest of the Hogs coming back. The Liberty Bowl wrapup, how cold was Johnny; and Jimmy G thinks the cold really affected the team. And, just to finish up on a high note, the crew rails on Pel and the basketball team.
